Brad Rickel has been a teacher and administrator in Fairfax County Public Schools for 21 years.
He began his career in FCPS as the Theater Arts and Film Studies teacher at Edison High School, where he also served as Chair of the Fine Arts Department. During his years as a teacher, Rickel served on the Board of Directors of the Virginia Theatre Association, and the writing committee for the Standards of Learning for Theatre Arts for the state of Virginia. He also taught I.B. Theatre Arts and served as an assistant examiner for that organization.
As a Film Studies teacher, he piloted the Film Studies program for the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) and served on the Film subject committee, where he collaborated with educators from all over the world to create the curriculum and assessments for that subject.
Rickel also served as the Administrator of the Edison Academy from 2004-2014. In this position he focused on connecting the career goals of his students with curriculum, industry certifications, and career experiences that prepared them for the demands of today’s global economy.
A native of Indiana, he earned his B.A. in Political Science and Speech Communication from Wabash College, and an M.F.A. in Drama from the University of Virginia, where he also earned his endorsement in Administration and Supervision.
