Vision Statement

Fairfax County Adult High School, includes day and evening high school diploma classes, GED prep, ABE classes, ESOL and English Development classes, GED testing, and provides opportunities for adult learners to identify their learning  needs and to accomplish their goal of obtaining a high school credential in an environment that is safe, supportive, respectful, cooperative, equitable, technology rich, and engaging. We will make available the options, tools, and resources to inspire lifelong learning and to empower our learners’ personal, intellectual, and social growth; model open communication, kindness, commitment, and integrity; inform learners of educational opportunities and programs; provide programs and courses that lead to a high school credential; and support learner needs in our technology-based society.

To provide a learner-centered educational environment that is academically challenging, innovative, individualized, equitable, and standards-based for those adults seeking a high school diploma or HSE.

Our school and classroom environments stimulate:  creative thinking, collaboration, communication skills, and learner comprehension of post-secondary career and educational options.           



Fairfax County Public Schools offers two ways for adults to complete their high school credential through the Fairfax County Adult High School:

  • High School Diploma, which involves traditional classes for a high school diploma at the Adult High School, or
  • High School Equivalency, which is General Educational Development (GED) program at the Adult High School. 

Residents of Fairfax County who are 18 years of age and older (no age limit) and who have not earned a GED or high school diploma are eligible for programs at Fairfax County Adult High School. 

We are the only adult high school within the Fairfax County Public School system.

  • transcripts (school records that document a student’s attendance, classes taken, and grades earned during each school year),
  • immunization record,
  • SOL results, if applicable, and
  • proof of your Fairfax County residency.
