High School Equivalency (HSE)
What is the Fairfax HSE Program?
The approved HSE in Virginia is the GED®. The GED® consists of four subject tests including Reasoning Through Language Arts, Mathematical Reasoning, Science, and Social Studies. More information on the GED test can be found at www.ged.com
The FCAHS HSE program serves students aged 18 and older residing in Fairfax County, the City of Fairfax, and the City of Falls Church. The HSE pathway offers in-person and virtual classes designed to prepare learners for the official GED test.
Program Requirements
- Learners must be 18 or older.
- Learners must attend a registration event (sign up here) and earn an approved score on an entrance placement test
- Learners must meet FCPS registration requirements.
- Learners must be a resident of Fairfax County, City of Fairfax, or City of Falls Church.
- Non-school aged learners must pay tuition of $80.00 per semester.

How do I Sign Up for FCAHS HSE prep classes?
Interested learners can sign up through the sign-up genius or by contacting @email for the link.
Registration events are not a guarantee of admission into the test preparation opportunities. A placement test will be given during the event to determine the best placement learners.

Steps to join:
- Achieve a score of 217 or more today.
- Complete and submit forms to Registrar
- Submit tuition and records to Registrar
- Receive confirmation that registration is complete
- Use your personal laptop or choose to borrow or lease a laptop
- Attend orientation (about 2 hours)
- Select class(es)
Can I enroll in the morning class and only attend 2 days and then join an evening class for all 4 nights?
The tuition fee covers either weekday morning or evening classes. Learners cannot enroll in both weekday morning and evening classes. Both weekday morning and evening learners may sign up for Saturday morning classes.
How long does it take to pass the GED®?
The length of time varies from learner to learner. Typically learners require multiple years of preparation before they have passed all four subject tests of the GED®. Variable factors per student include:
- Educational background, strengths, and weaknesses
- Attendance / schedule
- Work / life / school balance
